Geometry - What is a Cube?

A CUBE is a Geometric Solid or 3D Shape. Three Dimensional Solids have length, width, and height.



Properties: A cube has 6 square faces (sides), 12 edges, 
                    and 8 vertices (corners).


Suggested Activities
  • Read books about cubes and other 3D Shapes. 
 




  • Have students observe a cube(s) manipulative(s) or picture(s) of a cube.  Discuss its properties. Have students count and describe the features of a cube. (6 sides {faces}, etc.)




    • Have students look around the home or classroom for examples of cubes. How many can they find?









    • Have students look for pictures of cube shapes in books, magazines, catalogs. Have students create a poster, book, or slide show about cubes.

    • Have students create cubes using Arts and Crafts materials.
